The Buyer – Bevis ‘Swifty’ Clarke

Gets up early, leaves early. Mutters slightly too loudly under his breath when people get in his way. Has been known to don disguises, and to occasionally natter with old friends. Dislikes traffic and as a result gets everywhere about an hour too early. Hugely into Math Rock and real ale. Arch nemesis: traffic wardens.

The Cataloguer – Bevis ‘Cantankerous’ Clarke

By far the hardest working member of the team, and also absolutely the least active. Confined all day to a hard wooden chair, slapping away mercilessly at a keyboard. Loves bibliographies and cups of tea. Hates interruptions, and is utterly unforgiving when The Buyer presents bad purchases. Smokes too much and enjoys jazz and wine, but not in that order. Arch nemesis: marginalia.

The Packer – Bevis ‘The Expeditor’ Clarke

Creates the best parcels in the UK bookselling world. Spends most of the day confined to a small square of carpet, preferably within earshot of Test Match Special. Loathes jiffy bags and all who use them. Has a possibly unhealthy relationship with cardboard, and is only slightly embarrassed by a fondness for quasi-heavy metal. Arch nemesis: cat hair.

I.T. and On-Site Security - Bevis ‘Underutilised’ Clarke

Biographical details on a need-to-know basis only.  Is usually in the pub. Likes dubstep and Asian science fiction.  Buys rounds! Arch nemesis: closing time.

Marketing and Social Media – Bevis ‘two-a-penny’ Clarke

So far as we have been able to determine, does absolutely nothing and has woeful taste in music. Probably voted for Brexit. Moans constantly and never buys a round. Arch nemesis: himself.

The Intern – Bevis ‘The Hair’ Clarke

Makes a mean cup of tea (has a similar relationship with teabags as The Packer has to jiffy bags). Achieves little else and will probably struggle to fine gainful employment elsewhere. Firmly believes that Jim Morrison was a ‘poet’ and that Thurston Moore remains the greatest guitarist of all time. Arch nemesis: off milk.

The Guru – Stephen Francis Clarke

Once super-hard working; now rarely makes an appearance. Had a fondness for church warden pipes, and for excess. Remains greatly missed. Arch nemesis: that sodding brain tumor.
